What and why we do what we do...
BCC Evolution is making small steps every day to make a big impact in the mental health and suicide awareness space. Through our educational classes, events, programs, Make Mental Health Matter show on YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn and getting into the communities to collaborate with other nonprofits, professionals and like minded individuals and businesses.
Mental Health challenges and Suicide touch all socioeconomic groups. It does not discriminate, it has no borders, it does not care what color, race, gender, sex, status, where you live or lifestyle you have.
Mental Health is our brain, we all have one, but not all of us have a disorder, illness, diagnosis or challenge. However 1 in 5 Americans will experience a mental health challenge in a given year, therefore any of us can experience a challenge at any point in our life.
Some of the most common are Depression, Anxiety, Panic disorder, OCD, PTSD, Body Dysmorphic disorder (BDD) or Suicidal thoughts. Suicidal thought examples are, "what if I didn't wake up tomorrow, would anyone care" or "I could just drive my car off the side of the road and everything would be better", "the world would be better off without me" or others that might be similar. We want you to know, these thoughts are actually normal, we can have these at any point in our life, but the difference between actively being suicidal and having suicidal thoughts is you don't act on them. You can have the thought and then move on. You're not weird or "crazy" or abnormal if you have these type of thoughts.
This is why BCC Evolution pushed every day to educate, bring awareness and have the tough conversations. Because YOU MATTER! And education about mental health and suicide increases the likely hood of saving a life before they act on the thoughts of suicide or become another statistic because they couldn't get into a mental health facility or professional for early intervention before their mental health challenge worsened or became a crisis.
And we would not have been able to do all of this without our volunteers, supporters, Warriors for Mental Health monthly donors and people like you, that are reading this.
Our Impact in 2022!
We had a booth at the Cherry Creek School District New Teacher Orientation and were able to give 300 teachers resources, information, and some really cool new swag to show our appreciation for jumping into the schools to support our children and our future.
We had one teacher stop by the booth and I asked her what her semicolon; tattoo was all about. She proceeded to tell us that she went through some really rough patches a couple years ago and she almost didn't make it out, so she wears the very unique semicolon tattoo to remind herself she is strong and to keep going. She told us that she was so thankful that we were there because we, as a society need more resources, more people talking about mental health and making a difference in the mental health space. She loved everything we are doing around education. I thanked her for sharing with us and proceeded to give her all the swag we had at the table ;-), specifically our new bag that has the "Love Life; You Matter" logo on it and told her that she matters, I am so thankful she is alive and decided to become a teacher.
That's just one story, so what else have we done?
